With the 2022 wedding season now in full swing, we are already loving all the different ways couples are choosing to style their days.
So far this year we have seen a blossom theme worked to beautiful effect and another day where touches of teal ran through the day and worked perfectly. Whilst there is something of a structure to a wedding day (ceremony, drinks reception, breakfast, speeches and PARTY), the way the space is decorated is often the best way to make your day totally unique and reflect your personal style.
When we are asked to style a wedding or find the perfect wedding stylist for our couples, the three most important elements to nail the right look are:
- style of venue (rustic, historical, romantic, chic, ,modern, industrial etc)
- couples’s personal style and values
- wedding trends
FLUTTERBY EVENTS
Here at Flutterby events our mission is to help couples curate very personal and unique weddings tapping into our wealth of experience and creativity. We have built a fabulous reputation throughout East Sussex with both clients and venues, and are proud of the lasting relationships we share with both. We love really getting to know our clients, understanding their ideas and dreams, so that between us we create a magical day. We are happy to oversee every single element of the wedding or just provide some lovely styling features.
With so many sources of inspiration out there, and with trends evolving all the time, we know that this can be overwhelming for our clients and so we try to simplify this. Running with a theme through the whole wedding works so much better and creates so much more impact than trying to fit in too much.
Within the current trend for Regency romance, we’ve loved creating installations of English country blooms with trailing wisteria, and also stunning, hanging floral chandeliers. Another huge trend that we see is beautiful bohemian accents, and we’ve tapped into this by creating magnificent macrame backdrops using sustainable materials , oversized dried florals and an abundance of drapery.
Top tip: Always remember why you are getting married. A wedding is a grand celebration of your love, and the look and feel of your wedding should reflect this wonder. If your budget allows, I also recommend getting a great photographer and videographer to capture every wonderful moment.

Colours, Flowers
As the 2022 wedding season gets under way, many of my brides are totally in love with blush pinks; from the palest blush to the deepest dusky hues. Either mixed in with foliages or just designed with the flowers. With each design these colour palettes are so romantic and pretty. Also, the natural look is very ‘in’, utilising different types and shades of foliage to create a range of looks from cascading to set displays. Brides have opted for just foliage on their tables with lighting and candles or with hints of white and ivory florals entwined in their displays.
Lighting
Every event needs lighting but this season it’s all about statement illumination such as floor to ceiling lights through to impactful and dramatic centrepieces. Candles are always top of my list and new slim line candles have been a complete hit with my brides. Their elegance brings a richness to the decor without the need to spend a fortune and with having so many colours to choose, from they have become a big part of my decor collection.
Decor
Oh my favourite part!! Couples are expanding where they place decor and now not limiting it to just their tables taking it all the way through from ceremony to reception and moving pieces along the way. From wedding arches that move from ceremony area to behind the top table, and tall urn displays that give that wow factor at the end of the aisle and then move to create beautiful entrance pieces at the reception.
Draping from the ceiling has always been popular but this year couples have loved my designs of drapes from stands with their cake entwined in the chiffon cascading behind, set amongst twinkling candle holders and lanterns that give a wow impact. Gone are the days of sticking your cake on a table. Even more popular are the cake arches, from our hoop to the oval arch with cascading flowers surrounding it.
Acrylic and vinyl writing is also a best decor seller for this season already. It allows couples to match everything into one theme, from the welcome sign, to the floral stands down to the cake risers. A
Top tips for couples
- Use tools like Pinterest and instagram
- Start with a colour scheme
- Decide on what budget you have remaining for your styling details after you’ve found your venue and know what the big costs like catering look like. Tell your stylist or florist what your budget is, however big or small. Then can then create a proposal around this.
- Look at the style of venue you have chosen. For example, if you’ve chosen a rustic barn don’t go for lots of bling Decide where you want to create the impact. As people come in to create a wow entrance, or would you prefer more detailing around your dining tables?
- Choose elements which can move and therefore be used twice. So an arch you have at your ceremony could work beautifully behind your top table later.
